Hello Nico band was formed in Taipei in 2013. The members come from different backgrounds. The music styles cover pop, electronic, and rock. It is depressing and self-indulgent. Amidst the feedback noise of guitars and the arrangement of synthesized sounds, they quietly sing about the emotions and hurts between people, and observe the inevitable contradictions and struggles in urban life. Since its establishment in 2013, the band has brought astonishing creative energy and sparked discussions on the Internet with mature arrangements and abundant creations. Their representative works ‘Desolation’ and ‘Flower’ won the championship on the charts for several weeks. At the end of 2013, it was selected as one of Taiwan’s ‘Top Ten New Bands’ and is widely regarded as Taiwan’s most remarkable supernova band. In 2014, they released their first EP ‘Floating City’, which was highly recommended by well-known musicians Chen Jianqi and singer Waa Wei in written articles. With ‘Floating City’, Hello Nico won two awards, [Best EP of the Year] and [Top Ten Singles of the Year (‘Our Suffering Circus’)], at the 8th ‘Freshmusic Awards’. In 2015, they released their first album ‘Familiar Desolation’ and went on a tour. The first batch of physical records were sold only at tour sites and were sold out before being officially put on sale in record stores. Later, the band was invited to perform in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shanghai, and also achieved unprecedented success. In the second half of the year, they held an eleven-stop tour. Among the four concerts in the Pearl River Delta region including Hong Kong, Macau, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen, as well as the concert in Shanghai, all were sold out and full. Later, the band announced that they would return to Taiwan in January 2016 to hold four special performances in the north, central, and south. All four performances were sold out within one minute after the tickets were publicly on sale. In December 2015, at the fifth Abby Deer Music Awards held by the authoritative music platform ‘Douban’, Hello Nico was shortlisted for the [Best Newcomer] award.
In May 2016, Hello Nico was nominated for the 27th Golden Melody Awards for Best New Artist with their album ‘Familiar Desolation’ and won Best New Group at the 9th Freshmusic Awards. In July 2016, they released the EP ‘Close Your Eyes’ and held three sold-out concerts in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. Subsequently, the band embarked on a twelve-city tour in mainland China and held solo concerts in Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan for the first time. In early 2017, the EP ‘Close Your Eyes’ was nominated for Best EP at the 10th Singapore Freshmusic Awards and won the Best Rock Musician award at the 6th Abilu Music Awards. Hello Nico was invited to perform at the renowned American music festival ‘SXSW’ and later in the year, they performed at ‘TIMM Festival’ in Tokyo and were invited to the ‘Clockenflap Music Festival’ in Hong Kong. In February 2018, they released the remixed single ‘You Are the Erased Scenery (tour mix)’, followed by two new singles ‘Light Dust’ and ‘Dear Self’, and held the ‘Slowly, Faraway’ tour. In September 2024, they released the new EP ‘Plan B: If We Come Back, Let’s Watch the Sea Together’. This EP encapsulates the emotional energy and growth changes of the band members over the years. It not only presents a fresh face of Hello Nico but also maintains the musical power that has captivated listeners for over a decade. As night falls and the stars dot the sea, we huddle together, quietly appreciating the tranquility and beauty. The sea breeze gently blows, taking away the hustle and bustle of the day and the fatigue, leaving only inner peace and serenity. With a smile at each other, no words are needed, because we all understand the value of this tacit understanding and companionship. I think I haven’t had the courage to tell you outright that I am already destitute, I am already unable to bloom. Your radiance shines in places even you can’t see, going forward, returning, searching, retreating. There is no place that you should be responsible for.
