Hengdang Island

Hengdang Island is located on both sides of the main channel of Humen Waterway at the Pearl River Estuary. The island is divided into upper and lower Hengdang. Upper Hengdang Island is in the north and Lower Hengdang Island is in the south. The two islands are about 650 meters apart. The distances from the east and west banks are about 1300 meters and 1700 meters respectively. Because it blocks the Pearl River flood in the upper reaches and the South China Sea tide in the lower reaches, it is called Upper and Lower Hengdang Island.

It guards the throat of the Pearl River estuary and has an important position in shipping and military affairs. It has always been a place contested by all strategists. In those days, national hero Lin Zexu laid down ‘iron chains blocking the river’ and ‘golden locks and copper passes’ here. It was an ancient battlefield to resist the invasion of British invaders. Time flies like clouds rolling. Today, Hengdang Island has become a famous tourist resort across the country.

There are hidden tunnels and trenches, ancient artillery groups, constant tunnel walls, a vast expanse of sea and sky, beautiful scenery and unique charm. A bridge spans, turning a natural moat into a thoroughfare. Today, a Humen Bridge spans over Hengdang Island, adding a magnificent scenery to this beautiful island. The tropical ‘Sea Rhyme Bathing Beach’, ‘Mongolian-style living area’, ‘standard seaside guest rooms’, ‘barbecue site’, ‘seafood restaurant with riverside charm’, ‘bath entertainment corridor’ and ‘mushroom pavilion’ are ideal places for tourists to visit, entertain and spend their holidays.

They are also important bases for enterprises, units, schools and other institutions to carry out patriotism education. The specific business status of opening hours is subject to the opening situation on that day.
