Hengyang Museum was established in 1973, originally known as the Hengyang Exhibition Hall, which was situated in a cramped and dilapidated building. In 1992, with the support and concern of the Hengyang municipal government and all sectors of society, the museum relocated to a picturesque location opposite the scenic West Lake Park.
Here, surrounded by lush trees and a beautiful environment, the museum complex consists of two buildings: an office building (including a cultural relics warehouse) and an exhibition hall. The office building is a six-story brick-concrete structure, while the exhibition hall is a two-story quadrangle brick-concrete structure. The architecture features typical characteristics of southern Hunan residential buildings, with colored glaze tiles, wind-blocking walls, and an antique yet elegant style.
Opening hours are from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00-12:00 and 13:00-17:00, all year round; closed all day on Mondays; and during New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day, the museum is open from 08:00-12:00 and 14:30-17:30, with last admission at 11:00 AM and 4:30 PM. Essential tips for visitors include entering the museum with a valid ID card.
