The Hong family, a prominent clan during the Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties and known as the ‘Qiantang notable family’, saw one of its members, Ming Dynasty Minister Hong Zhong, retire in his later years to the Wuchang area of Xixi. There, he built the Hong Garden, a serene retreat for rest and poetry chanting. The garden is characterized by its bamboo fences, thatched cottages, and small bridges crossing the streams. This idyllic setting has allowed the Hong family to thrive in Wuchang for hundreds of years, producing historical figures such as Hong Piao and Hong Sheng.
The Hong Garden, a testament to the family’s legacy, is open to visitors all year round. Its doors welcome guests from 07:30 in the morning until 18:30 in the evening.
