The Hong Kong Trail is the third long-distance hiking trail in Hong Kong. It was opened in 1985 and is divided into eight sections with a total length of about 50 kilometers. The route mainly extends from the peak in the western part of Hong Kong Island to Big Wave Bay near Shek O in the eastern part. The starting point of the Hong Kong Trail is at the famous tourist spot, The Peak. The initial section of the route will walk along the mountainside of Victoria Peak (i.e., Flagstaff Hill) and descend to Pok Fu Lam Reservoir. The third section will first pass through Belcher’s Road, then circle around the mountainside of Mount Kellett and Mount Tin Wan before reaching Wan Chai Gap. The subsequent section circles around the mountainside of Mount Cameron at about 240 meters, passes through Middle Gap and reaches Wong Nai Chung Gap. The fifth section of the Hong Kong Trail overlaps with the initial section of the Wilson Trail. This section successively climbs Mount Jardine at 400 meters and Mount Butler, and then descends steeply along steps to Tai Fung Au. The subsequent section descends along the wide Mount Parker Road. After enjoying the Tai Tam Reservoir with a history of more than 100 years, it will reach Tai Tam Road. The path of the seventh section is relatively flat. It mainly walks along the aqueduct and circles around Sek Kei Shan to To Tei Wan. The final section of the Hong Kong Trail traverses the world-renowned hiking spot, Dragon’s Back, circles around Pottinger Peak, and then gently descends to the end point, Big Wave Bay. Some sections of the Hong Kong Trail are aqueducts and carriageways, which are relatively dull. However, there are also many sections that are muddy paths under the shade of trees, making people feel as if they are in a primeval forest. There are many side paths and exit points along each section of this trail, but there are signs along the way. The Hong Kong Trail is located in the countryside adjacent to the bustling city, with a strong contrast. It is a unique long-distance hiking trail.

It is open all day.

Must-see tips: There are no supply stations on the way. You can have a meal at a restaurant in The Peak Tower or Peak Galleria before departure, or buy dry food and drinking water at a store.
