The new building of the Maritime Museum stands four stories high, covering an area of 4,400 square meters, with 19 exhibition halls, two of which are available for rent, and a collection of 3,000 items. The new location incorporates numerous technological elements, such as the digitization and enhancement of the ‘Jinghai Quan Tu’, a historical scroll that narrates the Qing Dynasty’s efforts to eradicate maritime threats during the Jiaqing era.
This dynamic version of the scroll brings to life the tales of the Qing navy’s battles against pirates, including a significant battle against Cheung Po Tsai off Lantau Island. The scroll consists of 20 exquisite drawings, spanning a length of 18 meters. The dynamic version of ‘Jinghai Quan Tu’ is divided into two parts: one is a 360-degree projection on a giant wall that immerses the audience in the imagery, as if they were on the battlefield; the other allows visitors to use tablets to unfold different sections of the scroll next to ‘Jinghai Quan Tu’, zooming in and out at will. Additionally, the Hong Kong History Museum will lend a historic Henglan Lighthouse, built by the Qing Dynasty customs, to be displayed at the Maritime Museum. The museum is open all year round from Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM; and on Saturdays and Sundays, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Public holidays follow the same opening hours as weekends.Hong Kong Maritime Museum
