**’The Song of Glass’**
Co-created by the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo and the Ishikawa Prefectural Concert Hall, ‘The Song of Glass’ is a unique theatrical experience. It showcases the drama of human existence through music and perfume bottles.
This production combines visual arts, theater, music, and fragrance. It tells the story of human existence against a backdrop of a series of precious perfume bottles that serve as characters in miniature stage settings.
The exhibition is divided into twelve scenes. Each is a standalone story depicting pivotal moments in human civilization, from creation myths to the great achievements and sufferings of humanity. It immerses audiences in the shared fragrance of history.
Each displayed perfume bottle is meticulously selected and is a standalone work of art. Most have been sold in the world. They carefully safeguard the precious fragrance within. Often discarded after their purpose is fulfilled or lost in the currents of history, they are true survivors of time.
Accompanying this experience is original music performed by the oboe, piano, and string quartet. Audiences can move through the scenes with different movements. At designated times, live musicians will perform in sync with the deep projections of the scenes.
This multi-layered presentation enables audiences to engage with the exhibition from a multi-sensory perspective, fostering a deeper understanding of the themes explored.
The work is curated, written, and composed by Gao Shizhang. The displayed perfume bottles also come from Mr. Gao’s collection.
This is a 1-hour live music performance with no audience seating.
