‘Since some things can never be resolved, it’s better to laugh first.’ — Yang Hao.
Stand-up comedy, a popular performing art form today known for its humor and candid style, is deeply loved by audiences. Cantonese stand-up comedy, also known as ‘Dongdu Laugh,’ was established in Hong Kong in the early 1990s through the translation of Stand-up comedy.
Yang Hao, an artist from Chongqing now residing in Hong Kong, has taken Dongdu Laugh and stand-up comedy to new heights. Since 2018, he has been combining dance theater, Cantonese Dongdu Laugh, and Mandarin stand-up comedy to create a contemporary art form with a unique personal style. He humorously named it ‘Dance-up comedy’ and the evolving series ‘Legendary Comedy.’
‘Legendary Comedy’ not only showcases Yang Hao’s critical thinking about his identity as an artist but also integrates his sudden inspirations when bored, local culture and global elements, and the clever combination of comedy and contemporary dance. Highlights of this series include elements like movies, karaoke, and Shaolin Kung Fu, presenting a unique artistic feast.
Through ‘Legendary Comedy,’ the audience will embark on an artistic journey full of humor, self-mockery, and profound thinking, exploring Yang Hao’s unique artistic realm and his forward-looking challenges to contemporary art forms.
