The former residence is a two-story German-style building, characterized by its tall entrance hall, arched windows, blue bricks, and grey tiles, with a Gothic-style roof, making it very spacious and imposing.

In 1934, Hong Shen came to Qingdao to succeed Liang Shiqiu as the head of the Foreign Languages Department at Shandong University (now Ocean University of China) and lived here.

During his time in Qingdao, Hong Shen created the film script ‘Peach Blossoms after the Plunder’, which pioneered film literature, drawing on his family’s experience of their ancestral properties in Laoshan being occupied by the enemy, combined with the tragic history of Qingdao under German and Beiyang government rule.

The script was filmed by a star company at the time and starred the movie queen Hu Die.

The residence is now a private home and is not open to the public, only allowing exterior viewing.

It is open all day from January 1st to December 31st.
