Hongfan Pool, also known as ‘Dragon Pool’, is located in the southwestern part of Pingyin County in Hongfan Pool Town, and is a famous spring pool in the western part of Jinan. The name of the pool originates from the ‘Hongfan’ chapter of ‘Shangshu’. According to the ‘Reconstruction Inscription of Hongfan Pool’ during the Daoguang period: ‘The villagers built a Dragon Temple to the north of the pool because their prayers for rain were always answered, hence it is also called Dragon Pool.’ On the outer wall of the southern side of the spring pool, the running script ‘Dragon Pool’ is engraved, with a dragon head carved from bluestone protruding from the pool wall, from which the spring water overflows without showing a gushing state, and the water surface is as clear and calm as a mirror, flowing continuously throughout the four seasons. Qing Dynasty scholar Yang Shiyuan once wrote an inscription: ‘Always reflect the pool’s shadow on the world, not to be swayed by the changes of spring and autumn.’ Due to the buoyancy of the spring water, coins placed on the water surface will not sink for a long time, and ‘Hongfan Floating Gold’ has become one of the famous local landscapes. Hongfan Pool has excellent water quality, rich in minerals. It is open all year round from 8:00 to 18:00.
