Hongshan Temple is located at the Hongshan Park Square in the middle section of Siming South Road, Siming District, Xiamen City, at the southern foot of Hongshan Mountain, hence the name “Hongshan Temple”.
The temple was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (another theory holds that it was built during the Southern and Northern Dynasties). It has a long history. According to the inscriptions in the temple: “Since the Southern Dynasties, people have worshipped the Greatly Compassionate Avalokitesvara and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. The ancient temple has spiritual Buddha statues, protecting the country and blessing the people. Praying for rain or clear weather here will always receive an immediate response.”

Originally, the temple was on the hillside between Hongshan Mountain and Hushan Mountain. It had complete halls, looking magnificent and solemn. It is the second temple renowned in Xiamen Island.

Opening hours: It is open from 08:00 to 17:00 from January 1st to December 31st.
