Hou Lu, originally built in the 1930s, is a government official’s residence that exemplifies the classic Shanghai Shikumen architectural style. From the front, it appears modest in size, yet it conceals a courtyard at the back. The stone lintel above the entrance is inscribed with the characters ‘Hou Lu’.

It is open all year round with full-day access to the exterior of the building for visitors. The operating hours for Hou Lu Restaurant are from 10:00 to 23:00, though the exact status of operations is subject to the day’s availability.
