The Ap Lei Chau Horizon Plaza in Hong Kong, famous for its designer furniture, household items and fashion boutique retail, has welcomed a highly creative new member – YA! YOUNG ART art space. Different from traditional white boxes, this space shows the plasticity of contemporary art in a fashionable home environment and provides a unique and very intimate art stage for young artists.
The opening exhibition ‘House Warming’ has a double meaning. On the one hand, it symbolizes ‘housewarming’, welcoming the audience to enter this ‘home’ full of art and creativity; on the other hand, it explores how contemporary art redefines our understanding of art’s intervention in home living space. The exhibition will be held at Room 803, 8th floor, YA! YOUNG ART art space, Horizon Plaza, Ap Lei Chau from September 6 to December 8, 2024. The opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 pm on September 5.
The curatorial team has invited six Hong Kong artists to participate in the exhibition from the ‘YA! Young Art’ project, including Chan Hon Hei (born in 1989), Kwan Yung Yee (born in 1991), Lai Wai Lam (born in 1990), Lau Sze Man (born in 1995), Ng Kwai Yee (born in 1987), and Tam Hei Yee (born in 1998). Their vibrant works will be interactively exhibited with a series of European medieval design furniture, injecting a different kind of warmth and intimacy into the space. Art and furniture set off each other, inspiring the audience to enhance home taste and atmosphere through collecting artworks. As the famous architect I.M. Pei said: ‘Architecture is a mirror of life. You only need to look at the building to feel the present and past of a place and feel the spirit of a place.’ This experience and emotion coincide with the vision of the new YA! space. They are all about seamlessly integrating contemporary art and home environment to re-discuss ‘the art of life’ and ‘life of art’.
