The Houtan Park is one of the core green landscape areas of the Shanghai World Expo Park. It is located at the western end of the ‘2010 Shanghai World Expo Park’ area, between the east bank of the Huangpu River and Puming Road. It is south of the newly built Puming Road in the park area, west to Nijiabang River, and north of the Lupu Bridge. It covers an area of 18 hectares. The site was originally the location of a steel factory (Pudong Iron and Steel Group) and the Houtan ship repair yard. At the beginning of 2007, the ‘Turenscape’ team led by Professor Yu Kongjian of Peking University started the design. It was completed in October 2009. Nowadays, without the bustling crowds during the World Expo, it is even more secluded. The park is very large and stretches all the way to the Expo Performance Center along the Huangpu River. The layout of lawns, wetlands, and sculptures is clear and well-arranged. There are large areas of thatch and reeds, presenting a natural rural scenery. The supporting facilities are perfect. There are quite a lot of seats. When you are tired from walking, you can sit down and rest at any time. Opening hours: Open all year round from 06:00 to 22:00; Open all year round from 08:00 to 18:00. Service facilities. Parking lot: [Expo Avenue – No. 19 parking lot].
