Houwang Valley Scenic Area, located in the western mountainous region of Wencheng County, is 3 kilometers away from the Wencheng Shiyang Forest Farm. The entire scenic area covers approximately 1046 hectares and preserves more than 20,000 acres of primeval evergreen broad-leaved forests. With its fresh air, it serves as a natural oxygen bar. The area is characterized by its ancient woods, peculiar waters, steep mountains, and perilous paths, as well as its rich flora and secluded scenery.
Within the scenic area, the valleys are deep and forests dense, with towering waterfalls and exceptional pools, rare flowers and peculiar grasses, and entwined vines and trees. Monkeys, deer, birds, and other wild animals frequent the forest, especially the tailless monkeys that often appear in groups. Monkeys in the mountains often compete with villagers for food, and as they run and leap in the forest, the trees and forests undulate like waves whipped up by a stormy sea, with green waves rolling.
The scenic area is composed of attractions such as the Time-Space Tunnel, the Ten Thousand Monkeys Square, the Peach Banquet, the Secluded Valley, the Elegant Scholar’s Tea Tasting, the Monkeys Watching the Sea, the Shy Maiden, the Aviary, the Monkey King Terrace, and the Heroes’ Meeting. A journey through the area offers endless pleasure. The most spectacular attraction is the ‘Monkeys Watching the Sea’, where a plank road passes through the cliffs, and a viewing platform extends into the air, with a drop of over 200 meters, offering a view of two cities and three counties. Looking up, one sees steep peaks; looking down, one sees an abyss; looking into the distance, one sees a sea of green mountains and the vast sky, which inspires a sense of grandeur. The shaded plank road meanders through the jungle, allowing people to enjoy the tranquility bestowed by nature and to breathe deeply as if by a small bridge over flowing water.
