Hu Tian Ge is located under Huima Ridge on the middle road of Mount Tai. In the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, it was called Shengxian Ge. In the twelfth year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign, it was expanded and renamed Hu Tian Ge, which is taken from the Taoist meaning of regarding Hu Tian as a fairyland. The attic was rebuilt in 1979. Hu Tian Ge is built across the winding mountain path and is in the style of a city gate tower. The stone plaque ‘Hu Tian Ge’ is inlaid on the doorway and was inscribed by Emperor Qianlong when he climbed Mount Tai. In the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, Cui Yingchen inscribed a couplet: ‘In Hu Tian, the sun and the moon open up a spiritual realm; on the winding mountain path, wind and clouds enter Cuiwei.’ Another person named Ting Lu also inscribed a couplet: ‘Climbing halfway up this mountain is already like being in Hu Tian. Reaching the highest peak with thousands of layers is still a place of many blessings.’ There are two cypresses growing horizontally on the doorway, entwining and growing upward, presenting a magnificent and spectacular sight.
