Leaving the county town of Songyang and heading 2 kilometers to the northwest, there is a village called Wujing. Upon entering the village, one can see a group of high and low staggered horse-head walls standing tall and majestic, which is the unparalleled hall of wood carving art – Songyang Huang Family Mansion. The Huang family, after nearly a century of hard management, became a prominent local family and began to build two buildings, “Mei Lan Xuan” and “Zhu Ju Xuan” in the backyard during the Tongzhi period. In the Guangxu period, they built a “Wu Fu Ji Lou” in the middle yard, and in 1918, they invested 55,000 silver dollars to build a luxurious “Bai Shou Hall” in the front yard. The front yard’s “Bai Shou Hall,” commonly known as the “Seven Rooms,” is a three-deep, seven-opening hall, 27.6 meters wide and 33.8 meters deep, with 172 columns neatly arranged. Being in the “Bai Shou Hall” is like wandering in an art corridor. The hall is exquisitely decorated with beams and rafters, all centered around the theme of “longevity,” with 200 seal script characters of “longevity” on the ox horns and brackets, each with a unique writing style. The main body of the backyard is the Mei Lan Zhu Ju hall. The carvings on the door lintel and column bases all revolve around this theme, especially the carvings on the window lattices, which are meticulously detailed and lifelike. Between the window panes are small patterns of bats, butterflies, fish, pomegranates, and sparrows, deer, bees, and monkeys, all vividly depicted. On the brackets, there is also a group of carvings depicting labor scenes, including woodcutters, farmers, and fishermen. Opening hours are from 08:30 to 18:00 all year round; from 08:30 to 17:00 for preferential policies. Supplementary explanation of preferential policies: 1.
