Huanghezi Art Museum is located in the West Coast New Area of Qingdao, advocating the core concept of the five integrations: ‘tradition and contemporary, East and West, elite and public, academia and market, art and life’, aiming to create a new model of modern art museum. This exhibition is divided into two major sections: ‘Renaissance’ and ‘Neo-Renaissance’. It not only showcases the historical masterpieces of the art masters from the Renaissance period 600 years ago but also invites seven international contemporary artists to engage in dialogue with the Renaissance, totaling nearly a hundred works. This allows contemporary audiences to experience history through the exhibits and provides insights for the present.
It includes a range of classic works from the early Renaissance master Donatello, to the ‘master of masters’ during the peak of the Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci’s workshop, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Raphael Sanzio, Gillanday, the teacher of Michelangelo, and many followers of Raphael. The exhibition is linked by the threads of ‘From the Middle Ages to the Renaissance’, ‘Humanistic Spirit in the Renaissance’, and ‘Genealogy of Renaissance Masters’, showcasing the glorious history of the European Renaissance period to Chinese audiences and demonstrating the artistic development over the following centuries.
The Medici family is renowned in European history, playing a decisive role in the sponsorship of culture and the arts, and the development of the Renaissance. This exhibition displays the Grand Duke’s crown of the Medici family, tapestries with the family emblem, the only set of family-used tableware still in existence today, Medici’s bed, etc., leading us to experience the authentic culture and art of Florence 600 years ago.
