Huichang Drama Town is located in Northwest Street, Huichang County, in the south of Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. It is far from the hustle and bustle of the city and has a unique style. It is a secluded place with beautiful landscapes in southern Jiangxi. The town is backed by Lanshan Mountain. The Gongshui River and Xiangjiang River flow through. Creatures are lively and the green forests are shady. The nearly one-kilometer-long ancient city wall of the Southern Song Dynasty guards the tranquility of the town. For thousands of years, human migration and settlement have formed a unique Hakka culture. The ancient houses and inscribed bricks from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties record the past. Huichang Drama Town has four indoor performance venues with different functions – Huichang Theater, Experimental Theater, garden theater renovated from ancient houses and rehearsal venues. There are also the open and infinitely possible Yourong Square, Lai’s ancient house square, and triangular square. As well as the pavilion stage that has witnessed nearly a hundred years of historical changes and the bank of the Gongshui River that nourishes everything. There is drama everywhere. The diverse performance venues also inspire artists’ creative inspiration. Huichang Drama Town has established the ‘Artist Residency Program’ and the ‘Original Small Theater Repertoire Residency Program’, aiming to establish an art creation talent exchange network that transcends national boundaries, languages and cultures and promote cultural and artistic exchanges between cities and even countries around the world.
