The Huidong Gutian Provincial Nature Reserve is located in the northwestern part of Huidong County, Guangdong Province. The reserve’s topography is characterized by low mountain platforms, with the eastern peaks of Niujiao Mountain, Yanghushen, and Wuji Peak all having an elevation of over 1000 meters, while Nanrui Xinqiao has an elevation of only 113 meters, with slopes ranging from 25 to 55 degrees. The annual average temperature in Pingshan is 21.7°C, with January’s average temperature at 13.5°C and July’s at 28.3°C. The low temperature is 0.2°C, and the high temperature reaches 38.3°C. In the valleys and slopes at higher elevations, there is a distribution of tropical flora, such as the tropical fruit tree ‘Boluoman’ which can grow normally. The zonal vegetation is monsoon evergreen broadleaf forest, found on slopes between 400 to 800 meters in elevation, with primary tree species including the Lauraceae, Fagaceae, Camellia, Melastomataceae, Fabaceae’s Qinggou拷, Ge Mu, and Shi Bi Mu. In addition, there are Masson pine needleleaf forests and grasslands. The vegetation region belongs to the 1E14 division. The reserve is open all year round from 8:00 to 20:00.
