The majestic Humen Bridge spans the Pearl River estuary in the southern suburbs of Dongguan, echoing with the Weiyuan Fortress, and is considered a landmark of Dongguan. This is the first large-scale suspension bridge independently designed and constructed by our country, with the main bridge approximately 4.6 kilometers long and the bridge deck accommodating six lanes of traffic in both directions. The main span of the suspension cables is 888 meters long, earning it the title of ‘World’s First Span’. The bridge is not only extremely long but also renowned for its high-difficulty bridge-building technology, as it uses no steel cable suspensions. The Humen Bridge connects Humen and Panyu across the sea, making Dongguan an important transportation hub connecting Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and other places. Under the bridge was once the ancient battlefield of the Opium War. Although the sea is now vast and the smoke of war is gone, the overwhelming presence of the bridge faintly allows one to imagine the heroic determination of Lin Zexu and Guan Tianpei, who were willing to fight to the death without breaking through Loulan. The bridge is open all year round, 24 hours a day, with specific business hours subject to the daily opening conditions.
