Immortal Cave is located in Rongtang Village, Shi Shan Town. It is named after the legend of Taoist priests cultivating immortality inside the cave.
Immortal Cave is divided into upper and lower sections. The lower section has caves within caves and a world beyond the sky, offering a bewildering and astonishing experience. Most of the paths inside the cave are pitch black, so it is difficult to proceed without torches or flashlights to explore the way forward. The cave walls are decorated with various stalactites and stalagmites, hanging and attached, seemingly on the verge of falling yet remaining in place, which is truly awe-inspiring.
The cave is famous for its peculiar stones and water. The clear sound of dripping water can be heard at any time. The water drops create different tones on rocks of varying textures, forming a very pleasant melody. The upper section of Immortal Cave is known as the ‘Seventy-Two Caves’ because of numerous collapses in the cave ceiling that have divided it into many lava tunnels. These stone caves are like interconnected spider webs in some places, like spacious underground dining areas in others, and like bizarre ancient castles and palaces in some. Sunlight shines through the skylights formed by the collapses, illuminating the dark cave interior, making it a spectacular and magical sight. The cave is open all year round from 8:00 to 18:00.
