The Guangji Temple was built in the Jin Dynasty. Now it is the location of the Buddhist Association of China. There are many cultural relics and historic sites in the temple, especially famous for the huge finger painting of the Qing Dynasty. In the Qing Dynasty, the Guangji Temple was highly regarded. Several generations of emperors had visited and burned incense. Some even composed poems and erected steles for it, or bestowed plaques, so it had a very high status.

The temple houses many precious cultural relics, such as the Buddha’s tooth relic, the Three Buddhas of the Ming Dynasty, the white marble precept platform built in the Kangxi period, and the bronze tripod from the Qianlong period. On the back wall of the Mahavira Hall is a huge finger painting. In 1744 (the ninth year of the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty), the painter Fu Wen painted it with his fingers on imperial order.

It is named ‘Picture of Wonderful Fruits and Melodious Sounds’. The painting is 5 meters high and 10 meters wide. It is one of the relatively large existing finger-painted murals in China. In the picture, Sakyamuni is sitting on a lotus throne. With an amiable expression, he is preaching to believers. Interestingly, among the audience are Chinese historical figures such as Guan Yu, Guan Ping, Zhou Cang, and the布袋和尚 (Huineng).
