Jiajing Mingqin is one of the forty scenic spots in the Old Summer Palace. The main structure of Jiajing Mingqin is a double-eaved bridge pavilion with a four-gabled攒尖顶, spanning over water. Above the pavilion hangs a plaque inscribed with the imperial calligraphy by Emperor Qianlong, which reads ‘Jiajing Mingqin’. The term ‘Jiajing’ refers to the ‘sandwiching’ of the Fanghai in the north and the inner lake in the south by the bridge, while ‘Mingqin’ refers to the self-playing sounds made by the small waterfall on the hillside to the east of the bridge, as it leaps down and splashes against the rocks.
It is open all year round and accessible 24 hours a day.
