Jiang Village, also known as Jin’ao Village, is located approximately 40 kilometers away from Tangkou Town, which is outside the southern gate of Huangshan Scenic Area. It is a typical Hui-style village that was first established during the late Sui and early Tang dynasties and is inhabited by the Jiang family. The ancestral halls, old streets, and archways of Jiang Village are well worth visiting. Upon entering the scenic area, one first encounters the semi-circular Juxiu Lake at the head of the village, with the Wenchang Tower, Shike Archway by the lake, and the distant Lion Hill with its ancient temple, all quietly reflected in the lake, offering opportunities for photographing reflections. Moving deeper into the village, one can see the white walls, black tiles, and horse-head walls of varying heights, with villagers leisurely engaged in their daily tasks. The village contains three ancestral halls: the main Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall, the Pu Gong Temple, and the Filial Son Temple of Jiang Wenchang from the Ming Dynasty. Among them, the Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall is a particularly noteworthy architectural feature within the village. Constructed during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, the Hui-style carvings of brick, wood, and stone on the ancestral hall are exquisite. Note the characteristic feature of the Jin’ao Jiang architecture: a treasure gourd with a trident on top of the roof of the ancestral hall. Between the Pu Gong Temple and the Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall lies an old street that is 350 meters long and 2-3 meters wide. Walking on the stone slabs of the old street and observing the shops on both sides with their Ming and Qing dynasty styles offers a leisurely experience. If one wishes to view the village archways, one can see the modern reconstruction of the white marble Jinshi Di Archway in front of the Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall, originally built during the Ming Dynasty, and the pair of Ming Dynasty archways known as the ‘Father and Son Jinshi Archways,’ which bear the black marks of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom’s warfare.
