Some She ethnic customs: Camphor Tree Mother: It is a folk custom widely spread in She ethnic areas. She children recognize the ancient camphor tree as their mother and offer grain cloth bags, bows and arrows, and colorful ribbons to pray for a good harvest year, hope to become useful, and wish for a long life. Camphor Tree Mother implies that nature is the mother of human beings and conveys the concept of ecology first among the She people. Two-Home Marriage Custom: Swallows come in pairs. They leave in autumn and return in spring, having homes in both north and south. Why don’t the She people learn from swallows and have two homes? Singles and only children get married and take care of the farming of both families and support the elderly of both families. Ox King: According to legend, the ox is the grass official in heaven and sows grass seeds to the human world once a year. One spring, there was a drought and the grass seeds died and the livestock were waiting to die. The ox official took pity and secretly sowed grass seeds at night. Unexpectedly, the grass in the fields grew wildly, saving the livestock but burying the crops. The ox official was demoted to the human world and will always weed and plow the fields. Colorful Ribbon Workshop: The folk craft of the She ethnic group is weaving colorful ribbons, which has distinct ethnic characteristics. Women are good at weaving colorful ribbons, which can be made of cotton or silk. There are flower ribbons and character ribbons.
