Jiangxin Isle is located in the Oujiang River to the north of Wenzhou urban area. It is an island in the river that is long from east to west and narrow from north to south. It is also a place worth visiting in Wenzhou city.
The scenic area consists of two main parts, East Garden (Jiangxin Park) and West Garden. East Garden is mostly cultural attractions and ancient sites. The main attractions such as Jiangxin Temple and East and West Pagodas are concentrated here, and it is also a place with more tourists on the island. West Garden is mainly amusement facilities such as water world and children’s park, suitable for children.
On the island, there are not only ancient sites such as the East and West Pagodas built in the Southern Song Dynasty, but also the former site of the British Consulate in Wenzhou. Here, you can see the history of Wenzhou from different periods from the Southern Song Dynasty to the opening of ports.
You can drive to the vicinity of West Garden via Dong’ou Bridge. However, most tourists will choose to take a bus to Jiangxin Wharf, and then take a short ferry ride and board the island from East Garden. Usually, people walk around the island.
At night, on Jiangxin Isle, the bustling night view on both sides among the swaying tree shadows is a major reason to visit this island. The cruise ship docks to the southeast of Jiangxin Isle. After boarding the island, the first thing you see is the former site of the British Consulate in Wenzhou. The British-style building is very elegant. Now it is a private club. Around the consulate, new couples are often seen taking wedding photos. In the evening, having a glass of beer at the nearby garden bar with the river breeze and enjoying the night view of the Oujiang River is a very pleasant thing. Walking along the road on the right from here, one can reach the East Pagoda not far away. The East Pagoda, which is twenty or thirty meters high, and the West Pagoda in the west are eye-catching buildings on the island. The East Pagoda was built in the Southern Song Dynasty. Due to the loss of the cornice on the top, a tree now grows on it, which is very peculiar. The West Pagoda was built a hundred years later than the East Pagoda. Each floor has a small niche with stone carved Buddha statues. These two pagodas are not only places for praying for blessings but also navigation marks for ships on the Oujiang River to this day. Between the East Pagoda and the West Pagoda is also the main tourist area of Jiangxin Isle. The yellow building complex of Jiangxin Temple is worth seeing. Most people who come to Jiangxin Temple will be attracted by the stacked character couplet by Wang Shipeng on both sides of the main entrance of the temple: ‘Clouds gather and disperse every day, every day, every day, every day, every day, every day. Tides rise and fall for a long time, for a long time, for a long time, for a long time, for a long time, for a long time.’ Later generations have more than one interpretation of this couplet, but no matter which one, it is all about describing the beautiful scenery of clouds gathering and dispersing and tides rising and falling on Jiangxin Isle. When you come here, you might as well try to give your own answer. Around Jiangxin Temple, there are Song Wenxin Guogong Temple and Haoran Tower commemorating Wen Tianxiang, as well as Xingqing Temple which was once used as Wenzhou Museum and the small and elegant Chengxian Pavilion. There is a red scenic spot on each side of the temple. To the west is the Wenzhou Revolutionary History Memorial Hall, and to the east is the Wenzhou Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall. If you are interested, you can go in and visit. Open all year round from 08:00 to 19:00.
