Jiangzhuang is a Chinese-style manor villa located on the side of Huagangguanyu. With a construction area of 405 square meters, it contains ‘Zhenshanglou’, ‘Xiangyange’, and the study room ‘Juanxizhai’. It was once the residence of Ma Yifu and is now a memorial hall. The predecessor of this house was ‘Xiaowanliutang’. During the Xuantong period of the Qing Dynasty, Jiang Guobang from Nanjing purchased this hall from Lian Huiqing, a famous collector of gold stones, calligraphy and paintings in Wuxi. Later, he renovated the buildings, widely planted flowers and trees, and renamed it Langai Villa. In April 1950, at the request of his disciples, Ma Yifu, a great Confucian master of his generation, settled here. He often took walks on the promenade of Huagang and said to his disciples: ‘Being a person is a blessing. Through it, one can know the truth of the world.’ He inspired students all over the world to be like a piece of gold in melting, seeking upward, toward greatness and breadth, so as to ‘build our country’. It is now a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit. Open all year round and all day.
