Jiannan Great Hall: A Symbolic Architectural Landmark in Xiamen

The Jiannan Great Hall commenced construction in 1952 and was completed in 1954. It was personally designed and supervised by Mr. Tan Kah Kee, with the primary funding provided by Mr. Lee Kong Chian, his son-in-law, and the overseas Chinese from Nan’an, Fujian. The architecture of the Jiannan Great Hall is exquisite and ingenious, with its grand chandeliers and beaded curtain patterns, making it a unique blend of ancient and modern, Chinese and Western styles.

The Jiannan building complex adheres to the traditional layout of Tan Kah Kee architecture, with its ‘one main and four secondary’ structures. The five buildings are curved and face the sea, embracing the beautiful Shangxian Field, making it one of the iconic landmarks of Xiamen City. The opening hours and business status are subject to the day’s operational conditions.
