Jianpao Villa is a traditional Chinese-style manor villa located at No. 3 Gem Hill Lane at the southern foot of Gem Hill. The owner of the garden, Liu Jinzao, is the son of Liu Yong and the father of Liu Chenggan. The villa was constructed in the autumn of 1903.
It stands with the Baochu Pagoda at its back, faces the West Lake, is adjacent to the Northern Song Dynasty’s Great Buddha Head to the east, and is connected to the Gem Hill sculptures to the west. Today, Jianpao Villa is inhabited by several households, and except for the well-preserved main gate tower, the layout of the garden is difficult to discern. The villa is open to the public all year round and is accessible 24 hours a day.
