Jianyang Lake, also known as Jian Lake, is located about five kilometers southeast of Yuanqiao in Huangyan District. Originally an ancient bay, it has transformed into an estuary that runs from west to east. The lake area features winding rivers and numerous sandbars, with islands within the lake and lakes on the islands. Both the upper and lower lakes have islands within the lake, created by sandbars and dikes, where ponds are dug for aquaculture.
The ecological environment of the lake area is excellent, with a rich variety of flora and fauna. Reeds, bamboo, and willows are ubiquitous, and wild herons and seagulls fly over the misty waters. The lake’s scenery is hailed as ‘Huangyan’s Sha Jia Bang’. Among the wild animals, there are birds such as Zhize Mountain Sparrow, Brownish Gray Sparrow, Grey Magpie, Turtle Dove, Pheasant, Grass Bird, and more than ten species of reptiles, including the belly snake, and seven or eight species of amphibians, including frogs. The plant resources mainly include five major categories: evergreen coniferous forests, evergreen broad-leaved forests, mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests, shrub grasslands, and woody cultivated vegetation.
The lake area is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.
