The Jianzhou Jurchen History Exhibition Hall is located at the foot of Wunu Mountain City, a World Cultural Heritage site. Construction began on July 10, 2017, and it was opened to the public on September 30, 2018.
The exhibition hall has a construction area of 3,483 square meters and an exhibition area of 2,800 square meters. It is divided into two major areas: the themed exhibition hall, “The Mighty Wind of Jianzhou – An Exhibition of the History and Folk Customs of the Manchu Ethnic Group in Huanren”, and the affiliated exhibition hall, “The Melodious Rhythm of Porcelain – An Exhibition of Fine Porcelains from the Korean Peninsula Collected by the Cultural Relics Bureau of Huanren”. More than 1,300 cultural relics and folk items are on display in total.
In addition, the exhibition hall has two affiliated exhibition halls, each with an area of 259 square meters, which respectively display the intangible cultural heritage of Huanren and the Manchu wedding customs.
On the first floor of the themed exhibition hall, through forms of graphic and text display boards, scene restoration, figure sculptures, and multimedia presentations, the origin of the Jianzhou Jurchen, the ancestors of the Manchu ethnic group, and the history of their development and growth during the 238 years after moving south to Huanren are recorded. A large amount of historical facts prove that the Jianzhou Jurchen in Huanren made outstanding contributions to the unification of the Jurchen tribes in Northeast China, the establishment of the Later Jin regime, and the founding of the Qing Dynasty. Huanren is the place where the Qing Dynasty originated.
On the second floor of the themed exhibition hall, the restoration of the Manchu residential house scene is the main body. Through forms such as the display of clothing and utensils, the unique folk customs of the Manchu ethnic group, such as fishing and hunting sacrifices, weddings and funerals, and Shaman beliefs, are fully displayed.
The affiliated exhibition hall is located on the third floor, where more than 100 pieces of porcelain from the Goryeo and Joseon periods of the Korean Peninsula, collected by the Cultural Relics Bureau of Huanren, are on display. Through this exhibition, one can see the organic integration of the influence of Chinese porcelain-making techniques on the Korean Peninsula and local culture.
The completion of the Jianzhou Jurchen History Exhibition Hall has not only become an effective carrier for the inheritance of Jianzhou Jurchen culture, a new landmark for the tourism development and folk culture symbol of Huanren, but also, with the construction of affiliated facilities, will become a leisure tourism area with distinct ethnic cultural characteristics in Northeast China.
