Jiaoxi Town, a famous historical and cultural town in China, is located in the northeast of Tianning District, Changzhou City (formerly in Wujin District) and is now under the jurisdiction of Zhenglu Town, Tianning District. Situated at the junction of Changzhou, Wuxi and Jiangyin cities, it is an ancient civilized town with a history of more than 700 years. With a total area of 41.4 square kilometers, it is known as the ‘hometown of grapes’ and the ‘hometown of dryers’. In the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty, Jiao Bing, the tutor of Zhu Yuanzhang, set up a private school and gave lectures here, so it was called Jiaodian. Later, to use water to overcome fire, it was renamed Jiaoxi. At present, there are hundreds of well-preserved buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties in Jiaoxi. The contiguous blocks of ‘one river, four bridges, five streets and thirteen lanes’ are still well preserved. The successors of some folk cultural items such as ‘Jiaoxi mutton’, ‘braised pork in fermented grains sauce’ and ‘foot-pressed cake’ are still around. The production techniques and ingredients have not been lost and still exude a strong historical and cultural atmosphere. The opening hours are subject to the actual opening status on the day.
