Jieshou is located at the junction of Songyang and Suichang. Surrounded by mountains and rivers, it has excellent feng shui. The village nestles on the north bank of the Songyin River and presents a belt-like shape. There is a complete ancient post road preserved in the village. Taking the post road as the main line, there are ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties on both sides, such as post stations, ancestral halls, schools, residences, Yuwang Palace, round arches, and memorial archways.
In 2006, the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province announced Jieshou Village as the third batch of provincial famous historical and cultural villages. Although Jieshou Village is small, it is a place of outstanding people. The Liu family is a major surname in Jieshou. The ancestors are from the same branch as Liu Ji. They migrated from Qingtian in the early Ming Dynasty. The Liu’s ancestral hall was built in the early Qing Dynasty. The brackets of the ancestral hall are exquisitely carved, reflecting superb carving skills. In the middle of the courtyard of the ancestral hall, there is a theater pavilion with upturned eaves and warped tiles, a circular arched roof, and exquisite craftsmanship. Looking around the ancestral hall, there are red paper marks all over the wooden beams. Those are the official announcements of good news in bright red when the village students were admitted in the imperial examinations in the old days. Now they have become a proud symbol of the ancestral hall. According to the elderly in the village, there was originally a beautiful theater stage outside the ancestral hall, but it was demolished after liberation. The Yuwang Palace, built in the Ming Dynasty, has a unique architectural style. The existing foyer of the Yuwang Palace was rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty. The layout of the Yuwang Palace is foyer, first hall, pleasure pavilion, and main hall from south to north, with an area of more than 1,000 square meters. It is a pity that except for the foyer, the other three entrances were burned to ashes in a fire in 1996. Nowadays, although the Yuwang Temple Fair in Jieshou no longer exists, as a folk custom and cultural phenomenon, it still has a profound historical impact.
