The Jimei School Village is located in the Jimei tourist area. The overall architectural style is a combination of Chinese and Western, presenting a typical style of overseas Chinese hometown in southern Fujian. Among them, the more beautiful ones are the Dragon Boat Pond and the Jimei Middle School beside the pond. The more worthy one to see is the cemetery of Mr. Tan Kah Kee – Aoyuan. The school village was founded by Mr.
Tan Kah Kee with his own funds. Famous scenic spots include Tan Kah Kee architecture, Dragon Boat Pond, Tan Kah Kee’s former residence, the exhibition hall of Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s life story, Tan Kah Kee Park, Aoyuan, etc. Whether it is a tall and spectacular school building or a small and elegant pavilion, terrace, corridor or gazebo, all of them have glazed roofs, dragon ridges and phoenix eaves, and carved beams and painted pillars. Looking closely, each one is unique and there is no duplication. Walking from the back door of the Jimei School Village, Aoyuan is next to Jimei Middle School. Inside the surrounding walls of Aoyuan are stone carvings. Together with the stone carvings in the porch, around Tan Kah Kee’s tomb and the monument in the park, they form a grand stone carving museum. These stone carvings are the essence of Aoyuan. The porch of Aoyuan is 50 meters long and transparent in four directions. The two walls are inlaid with 58 bluestone openwork carvings of historical figures and stories. Turning around the screen wall is the tomb of Mr. Tan Kah Kee. The tomb cover is made of thirteen hexagonal bluestone inlaid and spliced. The inner wall of the tomb screen has 15 relief sculptures of Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s biography. To the north of Aoyuan is Tan Kah Kee Park. The gate is connected to Aoyuan. The commemorative sites of Tan Kah Kee include Tan Kah Kee Park, Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s former residence, Tan Kah Kee Memorial Hall, Dragon Boat Pond and Guilai Garden. The entire scenic area is by the sea, with a quiet and elegant environment and a fresh atmosphere. Visiting the former residence and memorial hall can help you understand the extraordinary life of Mr. Tan Kah Kee. He is worthy of the title of ‘banner of overseas Chinese, glory of the nation’.
