Jimei Village is located within the Jimei tourist area, featuring a unique blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles, showcasing the typical style of the southern Fujian overseas Chinese hometown. Among the most beautiful attractions is the Dragon Boat Pond and the adjacent Jimei Middle School. A must-see is the mausoleum of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, known as Ao Yuan. The village was funded and established by Mr.
Tan Kah Kee, and famous attractions include the JiaGeng architecture, Dragon Boat Pond, JiaGeng’s former residence, the exhibition hall of Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s life, JiaGeng Park, and Ao Yuan. Whether it is the towering and magnificent school buildings or the exquisite and elegant pavilions, all are topped with colored glaze, featuring dragon ridges and phoenix eaves, and adorned with carved beams and painted rafters. Upon closer inspection, each structure is crafted with unique ingenuity, with no two being identical. Walking from the back gate of Jimei Village, Ao Yuan is located next to Jimei Middle School. The inner side of the walls surrounding Ao Yuan is adorned with a group of stone carvings, which together with the stone carvings around the gates, corridors, JiaGeng’s tomb, and memorials, form a grand stone carving museum. These stone carvings are the essence of Ao Yuan. The corridor of Ao Yuan is 50 meters long, open in all four directions, and decorated with 58 bluestone intaglio carvings depicting historical figures and stories. Beyond the screen wall lies the tomb of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, covered with thirteen hexagonal blue stones, and the inner walls of the tomb railing and screen have 15 reliefs depicting the biography of Mr. Tan Kah Kee. To the north of Ao Yuan is JiaGeng Park, with its entrance connected to Ao Yuan. The Tan Kah Kee Memorial Site includes JiaGeng Park, Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s former residence, Tan Kah Kee Memorial Hall, Dragon Boat Pond, and Gui Lai Yuan. The entire scenic area is coastal, with a tranquil and elegant environment, offering a refreshing experience. Visiting the former residence and memorial hall allows one to understand the extraordinary life of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, who is deserving of the title ‘Banner of Overseas Chinese, Glory of the Nation’.
