Jinan Fu School Confucius Temple, located to the north of Daming Lake and near the old city alleys such as Furong Street, was originally established during the Song Xining period (A.D. 1068-1077). It collapsed at the end of the Yuan Dynasty and was reconstructed in the second year of the Ming Hongwu period (A.D. 1369). The temple underwent several repairs during the Qing Dynasty, and it has essentially maintained the scale and architectural layout of the Ming Dynasty Confucius Temple. According to research, the construction date of Jinan Fu School Confucius Temple predates those of the Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong; the Confucius Temple in Pingxiang, Jiangxi; the Confucius Temple in Luhe, Nanjing; and the Confucius Temple in Suzhou.

From south to north, the main structures of Jinan Fu School Confucius Temple include the South Gate, the Square and Round Pavilions (symbolizing the saying ‘no rules, no circle’), the Lingxing Gate, the Large and Small Pan Ponds, the Screen Gate, the Halberd Gate (commonly known as the Dacheng Gate), the Dacheng Hall, the Eastern and Western Corridors, the Minglun Hall, and the Zunjing Pavilion. The two pavilions, located inside the South Gate and positioned to the east and west, represent ‘square’ and ’round,’ signifying the importance of discipline in scholarly pursuits. Unlike other Confucius temples that face directly south and north, Jinan Fu School Confucius Temple follows a curved alignment, which is quite rare and may be related to the geographical environment during its initial construction.

The temple is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00.
