Jinfo Mountain is located in the Nan Chuan District of Chongqing City. During the late evenings of summer and autumn, the setting sun casts a golden glow on the cliffs, resembling golden Buddhas radiating a myriad of rays, creating a spectacular and beautiful scene. The scenic area is open to the public on the west and north slopes, both of which are accessible by cable car, and visitors can choose to ascend on the west slope and descend on the north slope.
Upon entering the west slope area, one can opt to walk through the 2.5-kilometer-long Baitan Valley to reach the lower cable car station, or take a sightseeing bus directly to the cable car station. After ascending, one can leisurely stroll along the Golden Turtle Dawn Trail, passing through bamboo forests and viewing platforms where one can pause to admire the surrounding peaks and cliffs. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to reach the visitor center. At the fork in front of the visitor center, there are shuttle buses that can take visitors directly to the north slope, but these are only available during the peak season; during the off-season, small vans operated by locals are available.

The north slope features a rugged and steep terrain. After ascending by cable car, one can walk along the ancient plank road ‘Yongling Ancient Path’ that still exists on the mountain. There are many natural caves on the north slope, with the Ancient Buddha Cave being the most famous. Inside, there is a vast cave hall with Buddha statues on the walls that appear mysterious in the interplay of light and shadow.
Beside the cave hall, there is an array of 500 Arhats, and following this array leads to the exit. The cave mouth is surrounded by cliffs on three sides and backed by high mountains, making it an ideal spot to view the sea of clouds over Jinfo Mountain on clear days. On the other side of the ancient plank road is the ecological stone forest, which, compared to other stone forests, is a vibrant coexistence of stone trees and forests, with trees and strange rocks complementing each other.
At the end of the visit, one can descend by cable car and exit the scenic area from the north gate. It usually takes at least a full day to visit Jinfo Mountain, with accommodations available on the west slope, north slope, and summit. The opening hours are from 09:00 to 17:00 on weekdays (Monday to Friday) and from 08:30 to 17:30 on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
