Jingangbei Happy Village is located at the foot of Jinyun Mountain by the Jialing River in Beibei District, Chongqing. The area is characterized by layered mountains, lush greenery, and the gentle murmur of streams, embodying the distinctive historical and regional features of ‘one stone path, a thousand years of Jingangbei.’ As an ideal place to live, it perfectly matches the clean and refreshing urban temperament of Beibei.
There is a beautiful legend behind the village: It is said that in ancient times, Mahakasyapa, a disciple of Sakyamuni, wished to establish a place of practice on Jinyun Mountain and sought the help of strongmen. During the transportation, a huge rock was accidentally left in the mountains, and later, Tang people inscribed ‘Jingang’ on the stone, hence the village was named Jingangbei. The project retains the original architectural remnants of Jingangbei and, after restoration, will showcase architectural traces from various periods including the Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China, the 1970s and 1980s, and the early 21st century: the Qing Dynasty’s drainage system will be cleared, and graffiti from the Republic of China period along with the soot marks on the walls will be preserved, highlighting its unique cultural temperament.
Chongqing is known as the capital of hot springs, and Beibei’s Bei Hot Spring is considered the best among them. There have been written records of Bei Hot Spring for over 1600 years, and during the Qing Yongzheng period, Zhang Penghe, a scholar of the Wuying Hall, inscribed ‘Number One Spring’ for Bei Hot Spring. Imagine soaking in a warm pool, enjoying the late evening glow of Jinyun Mountain, and spending a leisurely weekend—what a comfortable and delightful experience! It is only 5 kilometers away from the urban area of Beibei.
Overall, the Jingangbei Hot Spring Settlement utilizes the natural and cultural resources of the village to build characteristic hot springs, foot baths, SPAs, and guesthouses, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a traditional village setting with modern elements. Here, 12 hot springs of different styles and characteristics are gathered. Every drop of water comes from the Bei Hot Spring in Wentang Gorge, and it is worth mentioning that the water temperature ranges from 35C to 37C, belonging to a weakly alkaline sulfuric mineral spring.
