The Jinhua Alsophila Spinulosa Nature Reserve is located in Sifangjing Gully, Jinhua Township, approximately 48 kilometers southwest of Rong County, Zigong City. It is home to the “living fossil” Alsophila spinulosa, a plant with a history of about 300 million years, appearing 100 million years earlier than dinosaurs. This area is one of the few regions in China where Alsophila spinulosa is concentrated.

Alsophila spinulosa, also known as tree fern, is one of the eight nationally first-class key protected plants in China. It is a precious ancient plant, sporadically distributed only in China. The existing Alsophila spinulosa is an ancient relic preserved from the destruction of the Quaternary glaciers, earning it the name “plant living fossil.” The tree has a uniquely beautiful shape, with leaves growing radially at the top of the trunk, resembling a phoenix tail. Some grow independently, while others cluster in groups of two or three, with lush branches and leaves that block out the sun, forming a spectacular landscape.

The Jinhua Alsophila Spinulosa Nature Reserve currently hosts over 15,700 clustered Alsophila spinulosa plants, offering strong ornamental value. It is an extremely precious tourism resource in Zigong, complementing the dinosaur fossils. The reserve features verdant peaks, dense ferns, a fresh and pristine primitive atmosphere, hundreds of acres of forest resources, and surrounding wonders such as waterfalls, stalactites, Shiren Peak, Yixiantian, Nine Bridges and Eighteen Caves, and a reservoir nestled within. The mountains embrace the waters, with rippling blue waves, creating a rare spectacle worldwide.
