They have been collaborating for over a decade, mainly performing traditional xiangsheng, with over sixty traditional works to their credit. Whether it’s the commercial performances where they often perform ‘Learning Foreign Languages,’ ‘Tongue Twisters,’ and ‘Counting Treasures,’ or the small theater performances of ‘Spitting Lotus Flowers,’ they are all excellent xiangsheng works.
Although they are known for their traditional works and labeled as ‘veteran artists,’ they are actually a ‘joyful pair,’ engaging in daily banter and playfulness. Without the backing of a fan circle or overnight fame, Gao Feng and Luan Yunping have garnered an increasing number of fans and recognition through their authentic xiangsheng performances. Gao Feng: Born on May 12, 1982, in Tianjin, he joined Deyunshe in July 2005. He is a highly skilled and experienced xiangsheng and fast-clapper performer in Deyunshe and serves as the chief instructor. His mentor in xiangsheng is the renowned Mr. Fan Zhenyu. Gao Feng excels in literary performances and has a stable performance style. With his ‘textbook-level’ performance skills, he holds the position of ‘Chief Instructor’ in Deyunshe, diligently performing and tirelessly teaching, making him a model worker in Deyunshe. Luan Yunping: Born on March 20, 1984, in Beijing, his real name is Luan Bo, and he is the captain of the first performance team in Deyunshe. He joined Deyunshe in 2005 and became a disciple of Guo Degang on October 29, 2006. Luan Yunping has many identities: he is a serious graduate from Tsinghua University, the captain of Deyun’s first team, and the steward of Deyunshe. His specialties include performing xiangsheng, having a good temper, liking to tease people, and playing with rosary beads… However, what leaves a deep impression is the unique and amusing nicknames given to Luan Yunping by Gao Feng, such as ‘Smurf,’ ‘Luan Bugatti,’ and ‘Ma Fengying.’ The audience particularly enjoys calling Luan Yunping by these nicknames and watching his expression of resigned helplessness. The relationship between xiangsheng partners is like a pair of chopsticks; missing one or uneven lengths will affect the performance. Gao Feng and Luan Yunping are such a golden duo.
