Ba Bai Li Scenic Island boasts a diverse array of architectural styles. The unique scenery of the green mountains, clear waters, and the forest on water is unparalleled. Visitors can paddle through the forest on water, enjoying the distinctive view of ‘trees growing in water, boats sailing through the forest’. Legend has it that Pengzu, the ancient longevity ancestor who lived for eight hundred years, once resided by the Qingshan Lake in Lin’an, hence the name Ba Bai Li.
The area features clustered hills and undulating terrain; meandering streams along the lake with tranquil bays; and lush forests with beautiful landscapes. More than 100 ancient buildings collected from Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, and other places form an antique commercial street and an exquisite ancient village within the scenic area. The variety of architectural categories is rich, including government offices, temples, stages, ancestral halls, academies, pavilions, and residences, all arranged in a harmonious and complementary manner. The exquisite stone, brick, and wood carvings, along with the ingenious architectural layout, present to visitors a history of ancient Jiangnan architecture.
