Jiu Mountain Island Group

Xiangshan Jiu Mountain Island Group spans an area of 1149.5 square kilometers. However, in 2008, the area was reassessed. Following the review comments from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and verification by experts organized by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Environmental Protection, the total area was adjusted to 484.78 square kilometers. Within this, the core area comprises 58.84 square kilometers, which is 12.1% of the total protected area. The buffer zone covers 117.16 square kilometers, accounting for 24.2% of the total protected area, and the experimental area extends to 308.78 square kilometers.

The primary conservation targets within the Jiu Mountain Island Group are species such as the large yellow croaker, Mann’s squid, finless porpoise, black-billed tern, and other breeding birds, along with the associated island reef ecosystems.
