Jiuri Mountain is renowned far and wide for “no stone in the mountain without an inscription”. There are more than 70 cliff inscriptions dating back to the Song and Yuan dynasties. The most famous ones are the prayer-for-wind stone inscriptions of the Song Dynasty. The prayer-for-wind stone inscription group on Jiuri Mountain is one of the largest existing groups of such inscriptions in China. It can be regarded as a monument of the ancient Maritime Silk Road in China and is a cultural relic protection unit highly valued across the country.
In February 1991, UNESCO from various countries came to Quanzhou for a comprehensive inspection of the “Maritime Silk Road”. When they arrived at Jiuri Mountain, experts and scholars from different countries were full of praise for this scenic spot and left inspection record stone inscriptions, adding luster to the stone inscriptions on Jiuri Mountain.
