The Lanting Stele Forest was originally constructed during the Kangxi era. It was destroyed by a typhoon in the year 56 and was reconstructed in 83. Inside the pavilion, the giant stele named ‘Lanting’ is an original stele from the Qing Dynasty, with a history of over three hundred years. The front side of the stele features the full text of ‘Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion’ which was transcribed by Emperor Kangxi in 1693. On the back is a seven-character regulated poem titled ‘Poem on the Occasion of Visiting Lanting’ which was composed spontaneously by Emperor Qianlong during his visit to Lanting. This is a rare cultural treasure, with two generations of emperors jointly inscribing a single stele. The historical site is a distinguished landmark in its region. It is open all year round, with full-day access.
