From May 20, 2019 to September 30, 2019, it was closed for renovation.

Lao She spent the last 16 years of his life here. During this period, he wrote all his works after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Twenty-four works such as the plays ‘Fang Zhenzhu’, ‘Longxu Ditch’, ‘Teahouse’, ‘Looking West to Chang’an’ and the unfinished autobiographical novel ‘Under the Red Banner’ were all completed here.

Lao She’s former residence is a typical Beijing quadrangle courtyard with the gate facing east. Entering the second gate, there is a very rare multicolored screen wall. Before and after the Spring Festival, ‘Look up and see happiness’ and the inverted character ‘Fu’ are pasted on the screen wall. The central room and the west secondary room are the living room. The east secondary room is the bedroom and studio of Lao She’s wife.

The west side room is the bedroom and study chosen by Lao She himself. The former residence is also an exhibition room of Lao She’s works. You can see various versions of ‘Four Generations Under One Roof’ at home and abroad, the handwritten manuscript of ‘Rickshaw Boy’ in 1936. You can also see the certificate of ‘People’s Artist’ awarded to Lao She by the Beijing Municipal People’s Government in 1950.

Opening hours: Open from Tuesday to Sunday all year round from 09:00 to 17:00; Closed all day on Monday all year round. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.
