Approximately 3 kilometers south of Xinjin County, Chengdu, lies Laojun Mountain, also known as Tianshe Mountain and Choujing Mountain. It is a famous Taoist site in Western Sichuan and the location of the fourth ‘Zhi’ – ‘Choujing Zhi’ among the ‘Twenty-Four Zhi’ of Zhang Ling’s ‘Wu Dou Mi Dao’ during the Han Dynasty. It is also rumored to be the place where Laozi, the founder of Taoism, retired. The mountain is renowned for its Taoist architecture and the grand Laojun Temple Fair.

Most of the buildings visible to visitors today have been reconstructed. The main structures include Tianci Palace, Lingzu Pavilion, Hunyuan Hall, Bagua Pavilion, Sanqing Hall, and Qi Zhen Hall. These temple buildings are built along the mountain, surrounded by lush greenery, creating a sense of tranquility. On the 15th day of the second lunar month, it is the birthday of Laozi, the Taoist ancestor (also known as Taishang Laojun), a significant festival in Taoism.

The ‘Laojun Temple Fair’ at Xinjin Laojun Mountain Taoist Temple is one of the more solemn Laojun Temple Fairs in the Sichuan area. On this day, the entire mountain is filled with visitors seeking blessings, with a bustling atmosphere everywhere. The mountain is open all year round and accessible 24/7.
