LeiQiong Haikou Volcano Group World Geopark is located in ShiShan Town, Haikou City. The park boasts a diverse range of volcano types, making it a natural geological museum. From the highest point of the volcanic crater, one can enjoy a panoramic view of Haikou city and the Qiongzhou Strait, with captivating scenery. Following the park’s trails, you will encounter lush tropical plants and volcanic landscapes left from eruptions, such as basalt and lava flows.

There is also a Volcano Stoneware Cultural Park, displaying village gates, stone mills, bowls, basins, tables, and sugarcane processing tools made from volcanic stones by villages over 2000 years ago. It feels as if you have traveled back to the Stone Age. At the end of the trail lies the Volcano God Temple, with a horizontal stele inscribed ‘Mountains and Heavens Match’ and stone tablets engraved with ‘Great King God’, ‘Land God’, and ‘Yingzhu God’.

Ascending the slope, there are 199 steps, with 99 symbolizing the Double Ninth Festival and 100 implying longevity after completing the volcanic crater. Further up is Ma’anling Volcanic Crater, one of the world’s well-preserved extinct volcanic craters. The central depression is flanked by two peaks, named Fenglu Ridge and Baozi Ridge, resembling a huge saddle from afar, hence the name Ma’anling. Along the mountain trail, there are five viewing points to admire the crater’s scenery.

Ma’anling Volcanic Crater is the highest point in Haikou, at an elevation of 222.8 meters, offering excellent views on clear days, where many tourists take photos. Another notable viewing point is the Qian Zhuque (Viewing Haikou) platform, from which you can gaze upon the blue sea and sky of the Qiongzhou Strait and the towering buildings of Haikou, resembling a peacock spreading its feathers; to the south, the volcanic group covered by tropical rainforests rises and falls, presenting enchanting scenery.

Besides viewing the volcanic crater, you can also enter the bottom of the Fenglu Ridge crater along the trail, shaped like a large pot, said to accommodate tens of thousands of people. The crater is very cool and filled with plants, a natural oxygen bar, and you can also see remnants of volcanic eruptions such as volcanic cinders, lava cakes, and volcanic bombs. Opening hours: 08:00-18:00 all year round.
