Leishen Temple in Jieyang, originally built in the second year of the Kangxi Emperor’s reign and reconstructed in the forty-fourth year of the Qianlong Emperor’s reign, is dedicated to the deity of thunder, a natural god. In ancient times, the veneration of thunder by the ancestors surpassed that of any other celestial phenomenon.
