Liang Shanbo Temple, also known as Liangzhu Temple, is located in Miaogen Village, Gaoqiao Township, Yinzhou District, Ningbo, 6 kilometers away from the west. It is also referred to as the ‘Yizhongwang Temple’ and ‘Liang Shengjun Temple’. To the west of the temple lies the joint tomb of the righteous woman Zhu Yingtai and Liang Shanbo. The exact year of construction is no longer verifiable.
Originally, there were two stone tablets on the west side of the main hall of the temple, embedded in the walls. One of them is the ‘Inscription on the Temple of Liang Shengjun’ written by Wei Chengzhong, the county magistrate of Yin in the 33rd year of the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty: ‘Yizhongwang Temple, also known as Liang Shengjun Temple, is located to the west of the county, six miles from the reception temple, where it worships Liang Shanbo, the county magistrate of the Eastern Jin Dynasty in the time of Emperor An. During Liu Yu’s reign, he was enfeoffed as Yizhongwang, and the temple was established by the authorities.’ If this record is accurate, then the temple was built during the Eastern Jin Dynasty and has a history of 1600 years. At least by the time of Li Maocheng’s ‘Inscription on Yizhongwang Temple’, the temple was unmistakably present, indicating it was constructed during the DaGuan era of the Song Dynasty, making it over 800 years old to this day. The Liang Shanbo Temple has undergone numerous renovations and was destroyed during the decade of turmoil, later being repurposed as a granary and then a factory. The current Liangzhu Temple was reconstructed on the original site after 1993 and is located within Liangzhu Cultural Park. It is open from January 1st to December 31st, from 08:00 to 16:00.Liang Shanbo Temple
